Introduction
Bagsy in the sense that we know it now was introduced in the laste 90s, ago and mainly revolves about women on television (recent amendments now include cars). The first person to call the Bagsy wins. Sounds simple eh? well in essence it is, but over time it's developed into a highly complex game. The core is still the same, but a cunning player can exploit loopholes in the system to their own advantage. The rules are explained below with some situation examples. This is the first time the rules have been written down (let alone published online) so consider it a first draft. We may have forgotten things but they will be added over time.

If you've got a question, unresolvable situation or want to appeal you can do so here

Please note if you appeal and are successful you may get an amendment made, but if you are unsuccessful you will probably be ridiculed in front of everyone...plus it may harm any future appeals you make. This is just a little control we put in place to avoid the ambulance-chasers apporoach we see in the US legal system and are beginning to see here.

We'd like to thank the following for the initial hard work in refining the initial implementation of Bagsy © : Tadd, Funky, Sparky.

Also we've heard from some very early pioneering spirits from the world of Bagsy explaining about the very early days of bagsy and how it developed into the wonderful..umm thing it is today.

I would like to point out that your history and the origin date of the term ‘bagsy’ are slightly misrepresented! I must tell you that that ‘bagsying’ things actually originated somewhere in the early 90s, I think the legendary place was 48 Chalcombe road, Kingsthorpe by a selection of famous stoners including Tony Martin, Scouse Tony, Tony Evans, Tony Peedle, Cup-of-Tony and of course Tasty Tony etc. The term was used to wide effect for more a practical use i.e. We were such stoners that you would ‘bagsy not’ make a bubbly mix or ‘bagsy not’ go to the garage – it was of course Tasty that introduced the new concept of either ‘bagsying’ fine young fillies or Cars.

I just thought at this early stage of your excellent idea to place some ground rules on the web that you had the correct history of the term!"

Let's just say this once and for all:

IF IT'S NOT IN HERE IT'S NOT OFFICIAL BAGSY TOURNAMENT RULES!!!!

ANSI Bagsy © (International Tournament Rules)

1) Basic syntax
The first person to call "Bagsy" wins The obvious bagsy. If you wish to bagsy something other than the "obvious", then you need to append some descriptive elemnt to the end of your call.. for instance..If watching "Buffy" and there's a shot with both Buffy and Cordelia the following calls would have these effects:

"Bagsy" - Would bagsy buffy

"Bagsy Bagsy" - Would bagsy both Buffy and Cordelia

"Bagsy Cordelia" - would bagsy Cordelia only

It is arguable there there could be some ambiguity as to what constitutes the "obvious" bagsy, but to be honest it's never been a problem.

The actual "Bagsy" must be started while the person being Bagsied is on the screen, Bagsying shortly after will give rise to Much Hilarity a Piss-taking, especially when Trevor MacDonald is the next person on the screen.

There is no such thing as a "Bagsy all". Each bagsy must be done separately and or explicitly. Just saying "Bagsy Bagsy Bagsy" will Bagsy in descending default order - for example if Buffy, Cordelia and Willow are all on screen at once and someone calls "Bagsy, Bagsy, Bagsy" - they would be Bagsying Buffy, Cordelia, Willow in that order. If Xander were on the screen at the same time he would be the most-un-default Bagsy (unless it was a female playing) in which case 3 Bagsies would nicely sweep the board clear. A fourth Bagsy in this case would have also Bagsied Xander which would give justified rise to Much Hilarity and Piss-Taking.

To deviate from the default Bagsy pattern you must specify each Bagsy explicitly e.g. "Bagsy Willow, Bagsy Cordelia, Bagsy Buffy", although 3 "Bagsy" calls would accomplish the same thing far more neatly. Even the argument of that you're calling in a competitive environment wouldn't really make it worthwhile simply because it's more words and you're not likely to get more than your first Bagsy.

2) Leaving rooms and changing channels
If a person leaves the room for a short time (say to go for a slash) that does NOT affect any current Bagsys. However, if they leave the room for "a Significant Period of Time" e.g. to go and visit someone or to go to the pub, then they will forfeit all current Bagsies. Please note that until the "Significant Period of Time" has elapsed, the Bagsies still stand. Consider the following:

Person A, B, C are watching telly. Person A Bagsied Buffy and Cordelia.

If person A goes for a slash and returns to the TV where they got their Bagsies their current bagsies still stand.

If person A goes to visit a mate in another part of town or goes to the pub their Bagsys will expire after a Significant Period of Time, at which point persons B and C can reBagsy.

If persons B and C were to leave before the expiry of the current Bagsies then neither of them get the Bagsies and person A ultimately won. However there is nothing to stop them declaring the Significant Period of Time "up" and reBagsying themselves. If they were to do this and person A returned having left their keys or forgotten something then B and C could be (justifiably) ridiculed for cheating.

3) Bagsies per screen etc
Bagsies count on a per-screen basis, and anyone Bagsying must be present i.e. in the same room as, or within a clear line of sight of the screen.

If you're on the phone to someone and both of you are watching your separate tellys then you can both Bagsy without any worries. You cannot get a Bagsy over the phone, email, IRC, ICQ, MSN or any other such media, although you can say "Bagsy" to suggest that if you were in the same place as the person you're talking to, that you would most definitely be Bagsying at this point.

4) Sloppy seconds
A player, having missed their Bagsy can still call "Sloppy seconds". This has no impact on currently standing Bagsies, but does go to show just how much they wanted that Bagsy. There has never been need for "Sloppy Thirds" - it's only a game after all.

Amendments
1) In the case that there is no clear winner on a Bagsy call, and I do mean NO clear winner..then both Bagsy's are null and it goes to an automatic reBagsy, no discussion, no warning - just reBagsy.. The logic behind this is that it can either give rise to "Jinx, Private Jinx" style escalating shouting matches, or someone goes for the rebagsy and someone else is trying to contest the initial call - lots of scope for arguments - you've got to be on your toes for this game.

2) If a player's missus is in the same room, she can negate a Bagsy at any point after it's issued. The subject of the Bagsy (the Bagsyee) becomes instantly available again as if they had just appeared on the screen, thus opening the field randomly and allowing the missus some fun too. Thanks to Cas & Shane for all their hard work in testing this area.

3) You can now Bagsy cars. There's nothing really stopping you Bagsying anything at all, but Women and cars are the only recognised Bagsy subjects. It is also possible to Bagsy something which isn't on the screen at all, but it doesn't count for anything and there's really no point. Thanks to Tadd for his extensive research into this.
